Hands On Science

Program Policies

MCCPTA-EPI, Hands On Science is a community science enrichment program that stimulates “science in your life” awareness through the fun of active involvement in experiments, games, music and projects.  Our program policies include the following:

  • Unless otherwise notified, classes meet for one hour a week for the eight-week session.  There are three eight-week sessions offered during a school year.
  • The maximum class size is 14.  Program materials are packaged for 14 children and an Adult Leader. Our research suggests that 14 children is the maximum number that a Leader can handle effectively with each child participating in all of the activities.
  • Children must register for their current grade level.  Activities are very carefully planned to take into account both physical and cognitive development.
  • There is no food consumption during class.  HOS Adult Leaders do not have access to school records and therefore are not aware of allergies or special needs.
  • Once registered, there are no refunds unless the program is canceled.  In order to keep costs at a minimum we budget very closely. Once a class has a full registration, funds are committed for the materials and Adult Leader.   Another child wishing to take the class can replace a child who wishes to withdraw.  The money can be worked out between the parents.
  • We reserve the option of requiring the withdrawal without a refund of any child whose inappropriate behavior prevents the class from proceeding constructively despite the efforts of staff and parents.
  • There are no provisions for supervising children when they are not actually in class and neither the HOS programs nor the facility can assume responsibility for them.
  • Parents who refuse to pick up their children on time will be asked to withdraw them without a refund.
  • Please be aware that all materials, including ours can be unsafe when not used as intended.
  • Data may be collected confidentially for research purposes only.
  • The MCCPTA-EPI Hands On Science program admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students in the program.  HOS programs do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies.
